  • Wooden walkways towards the shore
  • Ramps from promenade
  • Accessible toilets in summer
  • Lifeguards in season
  • Shallow, gently sloping water
  • Blue Flag

Jávea's only sandy beach and the town's best-equipped for wheelchair users, with ramps from the flat promenade onto wooden walkways across the sand. Official beach page lists disabled access, walkway, toilets and Red Cross post; walkways and accessible toilets are a summer setup.

Arenal assisted bathing point (Red Cross)

Arenal · 1 July – 15 September (2024 dates), daily 11:00–19:00

  • Assisted bathing (baño asistido)
  • Amphibious chairs

  • Adapted toilet with changing table and shower
  • Free, booking required
  • Daily 11:00–19:00, 1 Jul–15 Sep

Platja de la Grava

Port

  • Seafront promenade
  • Toilets (adaptation not stated)
  • Lifeguards in season
  • Blue Flag
  • PMR parking and accessible tourist office alongside

Pebble beach in the port. Official listing does not claim disabled access to the water, but the flat seafront and the accessible tourist office with a reserved bay sit right beside it, so it suits a look-and-sit visit rather than a swim.

Cala Blanca

Cala Blanca · Review from 2020, may have changed

  • Disabled parking bay
  • Short promenade
  • No accessible toilet
  • Rocky beach not wheelchair accessible

Small rocky cove reached by a smooth, mostly flat road route from Arenal; the short promenade can be reached but the beach itself cannot. There is a disabled bay but no accessible toilet.

Walks and views

Arenal promenade (Passeig Tenista David Ferrer)

Arenal · Review from 2021, may have changed

  • Long, wide and flat
  • Step-free access to many bars and restaurants
  • Disabled bays at both ends
  • Some missing dropped kerbs

The easiest place in Jávea to get around in a wheelchair: a broad, level seafront lined with cafés and restaurants, several with ramps or level terraces. Some disabled bays lack a dropped kerb alongside.

Arenal to Port route (Av. del Mediterrani)

Arenal / Port · Review from 2020, may have changed

  • About 2.5 km
  • Very little incline
  • Segregated cycle track
  • Best with power add-on or trike

Coastal route from Arenal past the Parador and over the canal bridge to the port, on level pavement with a cycle lane. Skip the rustic and pebble beach sections in between, which are not accessible.

Arenal to Cala Blanca route

Arenal / Cala Blanca · Review from 2020, may have changed

  • About 2.2 km
  • Recently paved
  • Short steep hill at start
  • No cycle lane, quiet roads

Smooth, mostly flat route from the southern end of Arenal along Av. de la Llibertat towards Cala Blanca, ending at its short promenade. Fine for powered chairs; manual users will want a trike or helper.

Port seafront

Port · Review from 2020, may have changed

  • Flat near the sea
  • Narrower and busier than Arenal
  • Cambered pavements in places
  • Cobbled, steeper streets behind

The strip closest to the water and Av. Jaume I is fairly level and manageable for many independent wheelchair users. Streets behind the seafront are cobbled, steep or awkwardly cambered.

Old Town (Casc Antic) – caution

Old Town · Review from 2020, may have changed

  • Steep approach
  • Smooth, slippery paving in summer
  • Central plaza fairly flat
  • Not advised for manual chairs

The historic centre is reached by a steep climb and the polished paving gets slippery; the central squares are flatter once there. Recommended only with a powered chair or trike. Park in one of the old-town PMR bays to cut the climb.

Montgó Natural Park accessible route (Les Planes – Camí del Quarter)

Montgó

  • Signed accessible route
  • Starts at Les Planes recreation area
  • Nature park scenery

An accessible path in the Montgó Natural Park, from the Les Planes recreation area to Camí del Quarter. The surface and length aren't published, so check on arrival.

Mirador de la Punta de l'Arenal

Arenal

  • Excellent level access

Viewpoint at the southern tip of Arenal bay, rated excellent for wheelchair access with parking right next to it (busy in summer).

Mirador del Cap de Sant Antoni

Cap de Sant Antoni

  • Parking beside viewpoint
  • Good access

Mirador de les Caletes

Cala Blanca

  • Parking beside viewpoint
  • Good access
  • Narrow access road

Mirador de la Séquia de la Nòria

Arenal

  • Good access with one step
  • No parking on main road
  • About 5 min from Arenal

Viewpoint over the old Roman-era rock-cut channel near Arenal. Generally good access but there is one step; best reached on foot from Arenal.

Primer Montanyar / Benissero promenade

Montañar

  • Paved seafront path
  • Parking along promenade
  • Pebble beach, no water access

A long paved seafront path, popular with walkers and cyclists, with parking along it. Step-free details aren't confirmed, and the beach itself is pebbles and boulders.

  • Step-free entrance
  • Lift to upper terrace
  • Accessible toilet (layout changed when lift fitted)
  • Nearest bay on Calle Pireo

Last restaurant at the southern end of the Arenal promenade, flat throughout with lots of accessible tables and a lift to the big upstairs terrace. The separate accessible WC was removed for the lift, so confirm the current toilet set-up.

  • Accessible toilet (by gents')
  • Disabled bay outside side terrace

  • Spacious accessible toilet (ladies')

  • Step-free with small ramp
  • Wide aisles
  • Accessible toilet (ladies', tight for transfer)
  • Disabled bays behind on Av. del Mediterrani

Arenal promenade restaurant with a ramped, spacious interior. The accessible WC has a grab rail but limited room in front of the pan.

Restaurante La Bohème

Arenal · Review from 2020, may have changed

  • Small front step (step-free route round back)
  • Accessible toilet (ladies', narrow)
  • Wide routes between tables

Arenal promenade restaurant; a small front step is manageable with help, or use the longer step-free route round the back. The accessible WC may be too narrow for large powered chairs.

Charlie's Beach Club

Arenal

  • Portable ramp (steep, help needed)
  • Accessible toilet with grab rail
  • Cramped fixed seating

Friendly Arenal promenade bar with a good accessible toilet, but the steep portable ramp and fixed seating make it hard for independent wheelchair users.

Munay Tapas Bar

Arenal

  • Ramped step-free entrance
  • Spacious accessible toilet (ladies')
  • Well-spaced tables
  • No disabled bay outside

Tapas bar a short, fairly flat push from Arenal beach parking. Good ramp, roomy accessible WC and well-spaced tables inside and on the terrace.

Port

  • Wide ramp with small lip at door
  • Accessible toilet (ladies', unsigned)
  • Large open terrace with movable tables

Raised-terrace tapas bar above the port, reached uphill from the port or via the Fishermen's Church. The terrace is great for wheelchairs; indoor pedestal tables are not.

+Que Tapas

Old Town

  • Ramped entrance
  • Accessible toilet (ladies')
  • Well-spaced tables
  • Steep streets if no nearby parking

Old-town tapas bar on flat ground with a ramp and converted accessible WC. Parking close by makes it easy; parking further away means a steep climb.

Restaurante Portitxol

Old Town · Review from 2022, may have changed

  • Level side entrance via Santa Coqueta Taverna
  • Main entrance has 6 steps
  • Accessible toilet (ladies')
  • Roof terrace not accessible

Corner of Av. d'Alacant and Ronda Nord. Use the level side-street entrance; nearest PMR bay is on Av. d'Alacant but the climb from it is steep.

PMR bays – Old Town

Old Town

  • About 40 reserved PMR spaces across town centre
  • Includes Ronda Nord, Av. Príncep d'Astúries (Correos), Pl. Constitució, Carrer dels Oms

The council lists 36 locations (40 spaces) in the town area. Choosing one close to your destination matters here because streets are steep.

Disabled bay – Cala Blanca

Cala Blanca · Review from 2020, may have changed

  • Disabled parking space

A disabled bay at Cala Blanca lets you drive instead of using the road route from Arenal. No accessible toilet at the cove.

Toilets
